ON THIS EPISODE OF GO-TO-MILLIONS
I bought a blanket last night.
Well, actually 2 blankets. They were half of the price of the 1 blanket I was considering so shit happened.
I’ll show you the blankets but please don’t get distracted.
I almost got this. And, when I say almost, I mean almost almost.
I filled out the email capture for the 15% off of the Barefoot Dreams – meaning I meant business. Texted my sister asking for her validation.

The Barefoot Dreams email capture worked really well.
The code appeared on screen instantly in the promobar and auto-applied. The welcome email 1 immediately triggered to my inbox with an ideal pretext teasing the code and reminding me of the % off.

But, as I mentioned, I texted my sister. And, had given her another option that I was less serious about.
This bad boy:

$68 which is why I sent it to her (the 1st blanket option from Barefoot Dreams is $158).
And, this 1, unlike Barefoot Dreams, is organic. But, if I’m honest, I wasn’t feeling particularly strong in my resolve for health (it was Saturday night).
As I’m about to checkout on the Barefoot Dreams, she texts me back:

DAMN IT!!!!! She’s right. I did say that when she wanted to buy a Barefoot Dreams blanket a few months back. I researched it heavily. ChatGPT’d, the whole nine. BLOCKED HER FROM IT.
I agreed and pivoted out of the Barefoot Dreams checkout.
Filled out the email popup on Oilo.
The welcome code was sent instantly over text. That’s good. It was for 10% off but that didn’t sway me away because the price here for Oilo was less than half of the other blanket remember? So 10% off the blanket that’s cheaper is better than 15% off the non-organic blanket that’s more expensive.

What’s bad is the link from the SMS back to site DIDN’T APPLY THE DISCOUNT CODE TO MY CART.
And, that glitch happens often. Not just to Oilo but to so many brands I subscribe to on text. And, on iPhone, it’s hard to copy just the code over when this breaks down.
So, I had to go to my notes app so that I could copy and paste correctly. Seamless? Amazon like? Not so much!!

But, as you saw, my sister was already in my head and so the better offer, better experience, more-known-to-me blanket still lost.
In fact, after all that legwork and finally applying by 10% off code to Oilo, I said fuck it and added a 2nd blanket to my cart in the same color. Because I had prepped myself for that $168 Barefoot Dreams blanket and so I was still coming out ahead. Girl math.
In reality, the worse experience won because I couldn’t abandon my commitment to my version of quality once reminded of it.
Do I want Oilo to fix their experience? Sure do.
Do I want Barefoot Dreams to be organic? Kinda, but I’ve already purchased my quota of blankets for the year so it’s not really something I’m invested in anymore.
In my purchase of Oilo, I’ve become more loyal to that brand in my mind. It justifies my decision to have chosen it – rooting for them.
I’ll let you know how the blankets are if you promise to please go audit your own email / SMS experience from a different phone number that isn’t yet subscribed. Build a cart. Sign up for the list. Go to the link in the welcome SMS, and see that it applies without friction to your cart.
^ Without your customer needing to go open their notes app, if you will.Β
