WHAT NOT TO DO THIS WEEK

There’s 1 very important thing I’d like to discuss today. Disclosures.

File this under things I have a problem with (look to the top right corner):

Do you see how the #ad tag #everydaydosepartner tag is PURPOSELY hidden under the profile icon?

If you hold down the post, it becomes more obvious (but nobody holds down the post, I just did because I’m a marketer)…

The reason I hate this is she was doing SUCH A GOOD JOB SELLING THIS.

Like I have seen Everyday Dose ads everywhere for a long time but she was SELLING IT. And, it helps that I LOVE HER. I truly have followed @michaelapodo for 6 years.

Which is why I’m disappointed.

We don’t and shouldn’t trick our followers or our prospects into buying. This is an ad. The FCC requires we say #ad. So hiding that disclosure is not just bad practice it’s also an insult to the brand and to the product.

It’s a great product that can be sold with the story and value props. Hiding the tag shouldn’t be the thing that makes this campaign.

So here comes my ask: If you’re a brand, please never allow posts to go up that hide disclosures. If you’re a marketer, please never allow the brand to ever tarnish in the sake of performance. If you’re a lawyer, you’re better than me (I’m a law school drop out with only 1 semester under my belt).
